Planting water-absorbent plants.
Planning your new project near or above a slope to allow to adequate drainage.
Clear the area of any debris such as felled trees, or leaves, that may cause water retention.
If your home has gutters installed, double check them to ensure they point water away from low-lying areas that may be prone to water collection.
